Kabini Wild life Sanctuary

Kabini

Kabini forests are a mixture of tropical, moist and dry deciduous types. Home to a rich variety of flora and fauna, Kabini attracts environment lovers from all over the country. Thickly forested regions, wild animals, range of avian species, and plentiful herds of elephants make the Kabini Wildlife Sanctuary in Karnataka evenly interesting and distinctive. Besides elephants, it is possible to spot sambar, langurs, chital, bison, sloth bear, crocodile, pythons, tiger and leopard. The reserve is also home to around 250 species of bird life. The dam at Kabini Wildlife Sanctuary across the river near Beechanahalli is an extraordinary attraction.

There are several activities can be done in the forest

1. One can do Coracle riding in the kabini lake
2. Jeep safari in the forest
3. Check with the Forest department for trekking inside the forest

Kabini offers an enchanting experience all through the year. However, during March, April and May, when the season is the driest, most of the elephants of the surrounding forests converge at Kabini, to take advantage of the back waters of river Kabini, and to feed on the grass growing on the dried out surface. This is when you can view the largest congregation of Asiatic wild elephants, anywhere in the world.

Fauna

Elephants, sambhar, spotted deer, gaur, wild boar, sloth bear, wild dogs, etc., are almost assured, while if one is lucky, a tiger or a panther.
